Posts: 2 11/19/09 20:36:04	Tags : None That is about the dumbest excuse I have ever heard. There is no way a referee could have blown a whistle that fast under any circumstance. It was no more than a split second split second from the time the shot was taken until the puck was in the net. It was in one continueous motion the whole time. Same with them awarding goals to the opposing team for the goalie dropping his stick and being scored on by dead pucks. The puck was in the net a good 3-4 seconds before he blew the whistle. Their excuse of "I MEANT to blow the whistle" gives refs no liability and endless excuses for their horrible calls. VIDEO REVIEW!!!! I don't want to see EVERYTHING video reviewed but when a ref makes a horrible game changing decision, the video review committee should be able to call down and have it corrected. I know that requires way too much thinking for the NHL commission who doesn't know how to take action, but DO SOMETHING!!!! You're starting to see why I attend local hockey games more then NHL games. Between horrible calls and the constant restriction of players through MORE AND MORE AND MORE RULES!!!! Soon they won't be able to hit another player without a penalty.

Posts: 4 11/20/09 09:17:39	Totally agree with all the outrage about this call. As a 'Hawks fan I couldn't be further from a Wings fan but this call was a hot steaming load. I understand the NHL's desire to provide officials with some protection like the intent to blow rule - I'm sure it was designed to prevent early whistles and defend late ones. But we've clearly seen over and over again that the rule doesn't work, at least not in that way. This robbery is perhaps the zenith of this rules ineffectiveness. That being said, I understand the late whistle and no initial goal call. NO ONE saw the goal until it was swept out of the net. Even May didn't react until he saw that goalie stick thwack the puck out. But that is even more support for the argument that officials need to have the benefit of video review. If Bettman is concerned about video review refereeing the games then maybe they should adapt the NFL's challenge rule to the NHL. Seems worth considering anyway

Posts: 108 11/29/09 22:54:40	I go to more OHL games then I do NHL games because the refereeing isn't nearly as bad. I see bad penalty calls during OHL games but nowhere near the amount I see in the NHL especially on controversial goals and how the NHL disciplines it's "star" players compared to role players is so uneven it makes me sick. Result of bettman being still in charge and having his "yes men" working for him making a mockery of the game at times. Larry Murphy played what over 20 years in the NHL and Saturday said that Brad May goal that was taken away from him was the worst he has ever seen in his NHL career! Sad commentary of current state of instant replay and "intent to blow whistle rule". Maybe in 10 years or after next lockout they will right that dumb intent rule. Your Signature ...
