Jones signed
Wednesday, July 2
9:34 a.m.
Flyers G.M. Paul Holmgren revealed on Tuesday evening that the club has agreed to a two-year contract extension with restricted free agent defenseman Randy Jones. Jones also took part in a conference call with local reporters regarding his deal.
Randy Jones: “I just talked it over with my agent and kind of looked at the scenario that would have been best for me. With a two-year [deal] I think it worked out the best for myself and for the Flyers.”
Q: Does this contract increase expectations of you?
RJ: “I think it does when anyone signs a contract. The easiest thing to do is to get the deal, and the hardest thing to do is to go out and prove that you’re worth it. And not only that, but you’re worth more than that. That’s what it’s going to take, and I’m definitely excited and can’t wait until training camp.”
Q: On the current team.
RJ: “I think we’ve got a very strong club. I think we went out on a high note last year, and with the job that Homer has done in the last year or two years here has been remarkable. That’s really changed this organization and this team around and put us back in a competitive zone that Philly is normally in. I don’t think there’s anything less in expectations this year of going right to the Conference Finals and getting past that to the Finals. It’s very exciting to be a part of this team.”
Now that is some good news!
