Welcome to the NHL Connect blog page for Willa Ford. Willa Ford burst onto the music scene in the late 1990s. The singer/dancer recently appeared on Dancing with the Stars. She will chronicle the Dallas Stars’ Quest for the Cup, led by her husband, Stars forward Mike Modano.
This from user Bmose14: Great post! How about some juicy insider info! What songs do the stars listen to get pumped for games? and whats Mike’s favorite meal that you make for him? and whats his favorite willa ford song?
Thanks Bmose! Here is the reply that I left him. Anyone else, if you can think up questions, I’ll do my best to answer. Go Stars!
Mike is lucky because he’s one of the only guys who gets his standard pre-game meal specially cooked. We have a woman who comes and cooks for us, and if she’s not around I’ll do it, of course. He has a big steak (which he grills on his own because we just got a brand-new grill) or some days he’ll change it up and it’ll be chicken, he gets a big plate of pasta, and we try different pastas every time in order to change things up, and a big ol’ salad, and it’s also a different style of salad whenever we can make it work.
Oh, and he drinks a big glass of carrot juice.
The other guys, a lot of them hit a little place in downtown Dallas where they get pasta and chicken and they can be together. A lot of them do lunch with their kids if they’re younger and they aren’t in school, and then of course it’s time for nap time. For Mike, it’s about 45 minutes to an hour, and then he rolls out around 3:30 and we watch Ellen…I wouldn’t say he pays much attention, really, but I do… and then slowly he starts to get amped up, picks out his suit, and he’s off.
(Part 2)
From what Mike has told me, in each locker room around the league and around the many leagues in the world, there is a DJ. The DJ probably sits very close to the radio, has a specific interest in the kind of music the team likes, and runs the stereo accordingly.
In ours I know that Halpern used to, and now I think it’s Ott who loves to work the stereo. Mike’s favorite stuff is classic 80s, and he loves Billy Idol; sometimes a song will come on that I’m surprised he’s ever heard, I’ll ask him how he knows it and he’s like “Locker Room.”
In fact, you asked which Willa Ford song he likes? Well, they play my song “Bad” in the locker room sometimes and Mike Smith used to dance around to it. Just thinking about that makes me laugh. Hockey guys are such great guys.
In fact, I’ve been around a lot of athletes in my life, and you think a lot of them are arrogant and whatever – and a lot of them are – but hockey players all around, every one I’ve met, they’re not arrogant at all. It’s some kind of quality that hockey players have that is so lovely, they’re just awesome guys.
Again, thanks for the questions!

Thanks
for the insider info, it’s interesting to hear about what goes on in their day-to day lives, you know, most of them are like superheroes to us, so it’s hard to imagine that they’re just regular folk!
