Sean Avery

It seems as though a new breed of hockey player is manifested in Sean Avery. He isn’t too much of a points-getter, as he usually nets around 30 points a season – about as much as a 2nd line defenseman, and he isn’t much of a fighter; he is just an annoyance. Players and fans alike are sick of hearing about Avery’s pathetic contributions to his team and the game of hockey. He makes up for his lack of finesse and toughness by ridiculing players who he could only wish to be half as good as. Avery seems to be nothing more than a waste of cap space, and perhaps the league should have stricter penalties on instigation. Such a move would indefinitely eliminate Avery from any serious roster consideration. Sure, he has four points in three playoff games, but it’s a fluke. What ever happened to players like Dave Schultz, who would make short work of Avery and expose his uselessness on and off the ice.

33 pts in 57 games
2nd line defensemen? Come on… I wish he would have put up those kind of numbers out West.
Look what he did last year, he revived the team and took them to the playoffs. Face it, you may not like his style, but he is a damn fine player.

I respect your opinion, but I think that you are wrong in that Avery becomes a necessity by being annoying. Does he desrve to get his ass kicked? Yes, and when he does it will be well deserved, and I am sure 95% of the league who aren’t in a Rangers uniform will agree with it. but until then, entire teams are going to focus their hate on mediocre Avery rather than scoring powerhouses like Drury and Gomez. Avery is pesky (and brilliant) smoke screen.

Avery needs to get
his arse kicked good and hard a couple of times, what he was doing in front of Broduer last night was a joke, its degrading to the game and he should have recieved a misconduct penalty. Avery is a skid mark on the underpants of hockey.
