Wait for it . . . NASCAR

Wednesday February 13, 2008 @ 01:48 PM EST

Right, I gave fair notice up front that this isn’t a hockey blog. Go ahead and give me one puck but there must be some hockey slash NASCAR fans out there who are looking forward the the 50th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The NASCAR blogging community is . . . well, odd and not nearly as interesting as the gang here on NHL Connect. So, for you hybrid fans, I have some questions on the 2008 NASCAR season:

1. Who will win the cup?

2. Who do you want to win the cup?

3. How do you feel about the open wheel guys coming over?

4. What do you think about the COT?

5. How do you feel about the top 35 and do you think NASCAR should go back to having every driver qualify for every race?

My thoughts below:

    NASCAR IS MY LIFE

I CUT MY FIRST TEETH AT THE RACE TRACK AND WAS ACTUALLY RUNNING 90 MPH B4 I WAS BORN, DUE 2 MY MOM STILL RACING GO KARTS WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH ME!! I FINALLY GOT 2 START RACING WHEN I WAS BOUT 10 AND GOT MY FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN I WAS BOUT 12. BUT DURING ALL THE KART RACING, I WAS GOING 2 NASCAR RACES 2 DUE 2 MY GRANDFATHER WAS A GOODYEAR RACING TIRE DISTRIBUTOR, NOW ITS MY DADS DIST., WE HAVE TOURED EAST COAST GOING FROM TRACK 2 TRACK, AND BACK IN 2004, I STARTED TOURING THE WHOLE CIRCUIT WITH GOODYEAR, THAT ONLY LEFT ME BEING AT HOME BOUT 15 WEEKS OUT OF 52! BUT BACK 2 UR BLOG!!
    1-DALE JR
    2-KEVIN HARVICK-MY EMPLOYER
3-COCKY BUTHOLES-JUST LIKE THE BUSCH BROTHERS
4-THEY DO HANDLE BETTER, BUT THE DRIVER IN BEHIND ANOTHER CANT SEE DRIVER IN FRONT WAVING, MEANING; SLOWING DOWN OR TROUBLE AHEAD
5-TOP 35 RULE SUCKS THE DOGS DANGLIES, I’VE SEEN B4 DURING GATORADE 125’S, NOW THE GATORADE 150’S, THAT CARS FINISHING IN TOP 10 STILL COULDNT GO ON TO RACE THE 500 DUE TO OTHER PROVISIONALS AND CHAMPIONSHIP PROVISIONALS, AS IF THERE WERENT ENUFF PROVISIONALS, NASCAR HAD 2 COME UP WITH 35 MORE!!! ALOT OF TEAMS PEED OFF AT THAT RULE!!
AS THE “WORLDS FASTEST TOURING MASCOT-THE RACING BUG” HAS SPOKEN, WORD UP AND GLAD 2 MEET ANOTHER NASCAR FAN!!!! ROCK ON!!

    my thoughts too

    1. Who will win the cup? The Detroit Red Wings.

    2. Who do you want to win the cup? The San Hozay Sharks or the Buffalo Blades.

    3. How do you feel about the open wheel guys coming over? These guys only have figurative “wheels”. Anybody coming over the blueline should have his shoulder dislocated by a monster Phaneuf open ice hit.

    4. What do you think about the COT? I’ve only heard it referred to as “OT”. And I’m not really a fan of the shootout.

    5. How do you feel about the top 35 and do you think NASCAR should go back to having every driver qualify for every race? Oh that’s right, you did mention this was about some mythical pastime not related to hockey.

    GO SABS!!!

    My thoughts:

    1. A Hendrick guy, probably either Gordon or Johnson but if Ford gets it’s act together on the COT, Kenseth might sneek in.

    2. Jeff Burton. He’s consistent, he deserves it and he’s a hell of a nice guy.

    3. I love it. I know it’s not popular among the so-called NASCAR purists but I think it’s great to add new blood and make the sport more internationally appealing. Montoya last year was a lot of fun to watch and he’s the real deal. My only caveat is that they should have to qualify. I hate the idea of giving Kurt Busch’s points to Hornish so he guts a pass on the first five.

    4. I think it’s a great idea but poorly implimented. I’ll be interested to see how these first few races go – to see if they’ve made any improvements over the off season. But I do like the idea of keeping the cars on a fairly level field – it makes the racing more about the driver and less about the mechanics. I don’t know about you, but I don’t watch races for the technology.

    5. I don’t like it. I think everyone should have to qualify for every race.
