Too many sports, not enough TVs

Tuesday October 09, 2007 @ 04:24 PM EDT

The Beginning of October is a really great time to be a sports fan. Here we are, NASCAR is in the middle of the Chase; the Cubbies are (okay, were) in the playoffs; the NFL season is early enough I can still hope for good things from the Vikings and 49ers and now – yes – we have Hockey! My poor little DVR is getting overwhelmed.

The wonderful thing about the start of a new season is that hope for all things is possible. Usually, by October, the Cubs are sitting at home watching the playoffs, saying “there’s always next year” and obsessing about the goat. At least we got a couple extra days to believe. Right now, the hockey season is newly hatched and the Sharks could win the cup because all things are still possible.

So, here we are, getting our first look at the teams. The pundits are punditing and the fans are gearing up for a winter of yelling at the officials and screaming things like “block it, you moron!” and “what the hell was that?!”. I haven’t had a chance to catch a Sabres game yet, on account of family issues – like children who want to be fed. Sheesh! Who do they think I am, their mother? I’m still hoping to see a game on Center Ice Online before the freebee expires.

As for the Sharks . . . the jury is still out. They were terrible against the Oilers, good against Vancouver and really up and down against Colorado. Understand that these opinions are those of the author who saw all three games in five minute chunks scattered around dinner and shopping and baseball.

Lastly, I must say how much I enjoy these boards and blogs. My husband likes football and racing, and I have friends who are baseball fans, but no one I know really enjoys hockey. And y’all are active!! It’s just great.
