Blog voting...
Thursday April 10, 2008 @ 02:02 PM EDT
Just curious, but I like to read the blogs and I often come across blogs featuring stats or info about the draft or whatever and often these blogs will have a one puck vote. ??
I don’t understand, numbers are numbers – what is there to vote down? Spelling? Formatting? I can see voting down someone you disagree with but how do you disagree with a list of the draft lottery? Or is someone out there going around and giving one puck votes just ’cause?

All good point ladies... but.....
I used to get bothered by the puck rating as I took it personally when someone rated my blog poorly. But then, I realized there were people who actually rated blogs low on purpose to sabotage visibility. So, now, I don’t really pay much attention to the rating system. If I see a topic I like, I read the blog, regardless of the rating. Or I have certain people who’s blogs I like to read. I also don’t mind some stats in blogs as it substantiates thoughts and feelings. You have to remember, there are thousands of people on here, so we’re going to see all kinds of opinions.. good and bad!! It’s called a democracy.. “freedom to express your thoughts, feelings…etc..” Now, I will rate a blog “one puck” if the person is just disrepectful and inappropriate. There are a few folks on here notorious for that S H I T!

It all depends ...
.. on your frame of reference. So, here I am, commenting on my own blog. But Marilyn raised an interesting point. Do people use the puck voting to indicate that they agree or disagree with the blog or to indicate that they like or dislike the blog – regardless of opinions expressed.
I’ve always voted on content. If I like a blog, even if I disagree with it, I’ll give it a four or five. If I don’t think the blog is particularly interesting or well written – I usually just don’t vote at all. I save my one puck votes for blogs that are the literary equivalent of blowing a raspberry.

hm
I only vote one puck on stupid pointless blogs. I guess that does include things like stats and lists that people purely cut and paste because I could have read them and may have read them already on NHL.com. And if someone writes a one sentence blog or uses someone else’s words they’re probably more likely to be rated a one. Further than that, some people rate blogs just for pure dislike. For instance, I am pretty sure people did that to my Detroit blog simply because they don’t like Detroit!
