While most people are getting ready for their 4th of July celebrations, I am stuck at work and bored out of mind so I thought I would post some thoughts.

1. My Pens came through free agency pretty well. They locked up Malkin, Fleury and Orpik to long term deals. They lost Hossa, and I was upset for a little while, but for his salary they were about to pick up 2 solid wingers in Satan and Fedetenko. Sure they are not as good Hossa but I believe they will put up good numbers while playing with Crosby and Malkin

2. I just read that Jagr signed on to play for the Russian League. I can’t say I’m surprised because I thought if things didn’t work in New York he would end up in Russia. I am surprised that New York didn’t even attempt to sign him. During the playoffs he showed that he is still a quality player.

3. Tampa Bay seems like they are building a powerhouse team but when I really look at their situation, I’m not sure how successful they will be. Sure they added Stamkos. Stamkos Combined with Lecavalier and St. Louis makes a pretty good offense. I have been reading on these blogs that Tampa’s defense is not very good. Which is a problem just like their goal tending. I’m not really following them but I’ll take the word of Tampa fans.


4. Detroit is still the team to beat. Somehow, they managed not lose anybody in free agency so we are looking at the same team as last year. Plus Hossa and Conklin. I’m trying to tell myself that anything can happen and no team can be gauranteed a Cup but Detroit is looking great.


Those are my though and opinions so far this summer. I know we have long way to go before the 1st puck drops. Anything can happen still and no one can predict what these teams will do until we actually see them play.
