Hi, I’m Lauren. My story isn’t like most hockey fans you know. I’m not Canadian. I’m not even from a hockey state. I don’t come from a hockey family, and I’m pretty sure no one in my immediate family could tell you what color the blue line is. I didn’t grow up with the game. You should see me on skates… like a cat in a bathtub. I don’t have any cute tales of my dad shooting pucks at me in our basement, or playing some shinny with the neighbors on the backyard pond. In fact, where I’m from the temperature drops below freezing probably twice a year. I live in a city that is crazy about its football and baseball. Somehow despite all this, I evolved into a fanatic who would sleep through winter if it weren’t for hockey season, and who requests Saturdays off work just to watch Hockey Night in Canada. I am a hockey fan. “How?” everyone asks me. Well let’s just call it love at first puck-drop. Passion over function. Who says true love doesn’t exist?

Free agency has been extremely crazy…how the heck Hossa gets 12 years, I don’t know and I don’t really care…Leafs are getting tougher, so are my Flyers. Pronger, Ian Laperriere, Brian Boucher and Ray Emery, interesting offseason so far….I have to show this to you, this is hilarious:

how are you doing Lauren? Did you hear about the possibility of a second Winter Classic game for 2010? I heard that the Flames would be hosting it, and a Canadian team would be playing against them. I’d love to see that, but it’s just rumors right now, nothing official. =]

A belated thanks for accepting my buddy request! It’s great to have hockey fans from Seattle, a city that Jim Bouton of Ball Four said ‘appreciates their art museums over their sports teams’ (cases in point, Pilots and Sonics)!
Anyway, I’m from a third generation non-hockey family lol. It’s great to connect with other fans rather than practicing a hobby in isolation!
