2008 Playoff Predictions

Western Conference:
(1)Detroit vs. (8)Nashville – Red Wings In 5 – Preds are easily the weakest team of the 8 West Teams in the playoffs.
(2)San Jose vs. (7)Calgary – Sharks In 6 – I think Kiprusoff might steal a couple games, but the Sharks are far too good a club to lose in the first round to a Northwest Team.
(3)Minnesota vs. (6)Colorado – Wild In 7 – This should come down to goaltending and Backstrom is better than Theodore or Budaj.
(4)Anaheim vs. (5)Dallas – Stars In 7 – Most even match in the playoffs in my opinion. Basically Dallas’ Offense against Anaheim’s Defense. I say Dallas squeaks by in the first round (or at least I’m hoping)
(1)Detroit vs. (5)Dallas – Stars In 6 – Just A Hunch I have, though whoever gets through this mathcup will probably lose to San Jose so who cares.
(2)San Jose vs. (3)Minnesota – Sharks In 5 – Minnesota Is Really Only The 3rd Seed Because They Won Their Division, They are more like 5th in the West and The Sharks Solid Defense Won’t Allow The Wild To Score Much.
(2)San Jose vs. (5)Dallas – Sharks In 6 – Once again I pick the Sharks to win the West and my team to fall out in the conference finals. Each game will probably be decided by a goal though. Whoever gets the right bounces will win.
Eastern Conference:
(1)Montrael vs. (8)Boston – Canadiens in 5 – Boston barely squeaked into the playoffs after a bad season end. I don’t see them toppling the 1 seed entering that way.
(2)Pittsburgh vs. (7)Ottawa – Pens In 6 – I think this series will be closer then most think, but I still doubt Ottawa’s 1st line can compete with Pittsburgh’s scoring depth.
(3)Washington vs. (6)Philidelphia – Caps In 6 – Huet’s Play along with the Flyer’s recent defensive lapses should be a win for the Caps.
(4)New Jersey vs. (5)New York Rangers – Rangers In 7 – Should Be A Very Defensive Series. Rangers have more offensive weapons than Devils.
(1)Montrael vs. (5)New York Rangers – Rangers In 6 – I don’t consider Montrael to be a very strong #1 Seed, So I’m guessing Lundqvist will stand on his head for the upset.
(2)Pittsburgh vs. (3)Washington – Pittsburgh In 5 – In my opinion, Pittsburgh is really the East Team Capable of beating Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim, or Dallas one of which I believe will come out of the West. Sid The Kid Vs. AO should be epic, but the talent AO brings won’t compare to the scoring punch Pittsburgh carries.
(2)Pittsburgh vs. (5)New York Rangers – Pittsburgh In 5 – Again, Pittsburgh is really the only “Powerhouse” in the East, they’ll probably run over whoever faces them pretty easily.
Stanley Cup Finals:
(2)San Jose vs. (2)Pittsburgh – Sharks In 6 – In what would be the 2 most talented teams for each conference, San Jose can actually play Defense, and Penguins who play in the Defensively weak East, won’t know what to do when encountering a real defensive challenge.
