The Best Moments of the 2007-2008 Season
Wednesday June 11, 2008 @ 01:02 PM EDT
It has been one week since the end of the NHL season. One week for the stinging wounds of loss to heal. One week to reflect on the season and remember it for all the great things it brought for me as a fan. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to rank them, or do them in chronological order – so here’s my personal list of best moments this season – in no particular order:
. . . . .
- The Winter Classic* – best way to spend what is otherwise the most boring day of the calendar year. My team winning was just icing.
- The Trade Deadline* – and all the things that went along with it – Most Especially – Foote’s on-ice return in Calgary, Foppa’s return from Sweden, the addition of Salei, Hossa coming to the Pens
- The Playoff Race* – all the nail biting in the NW division for division title, and playoff seeding . . . (for a while there it looked like 4 or even all 5 of the NW teams could make the playoffs)
- Super Joe* – and his 8th playoff OT winning goal vs. the Wild – the still reigning King of Clutch.
- Jose Theoodore’s Revivial* – stealing game 5 in Minny
- Jagr Lighting up the Ice* – for the Rangers v. the Pens
- Pens Sweep* – in round 1 vs. Ottawa
- Malkin’s Slap Shot* – off the break away against Philly . . . .
- The Avs* – fighting on through an injury plagues season like no other, and refusing to give up . . . and for a really classy exit. They made this fan proud.
10)GAME 5-Stanley Cup Finals -Malone and Gonch playing injured – and Sykora calling his shot like freakin’ Babe Ruth!! AMAZING!!!
. . . . .
. . . . .
So how about you – What are your Top 10 Moments from the season? – What games, goals, players, teams have left the most indelible impression on your memory? -What stories will you still be telling years from now?

You left out the absolute best moment.....
The 8-2 pounding that the Wings delivered to eliminate to lowly avalanche in a SWEEP!

Great! Not sure if I have 10, but here goes.
1) I agree with 22- Washington vs. Philly series- I hate Washington because they are our division rivals, but I respect what the team and their coach did from December until they were eliminated. Truly awesome.
2) Philly defeating the odds and playing for the East Conference Finals- really surprised me! Especially after coming off last season’s debacle.
3) Max Talbot’s goal in Game 5 of the Cup Finals!
4) Crosby losing his chiclets this year and getting his teeth knocked, but Crosby for hanging in there and not letting Richards or anyone else intimidate him. He has really proven his leadership ability this year! He really deserves to wear that C on his uniform.
5) Dallas Stars for making it to the West Finals and beating Anaheim and San José. Wanted San Jose to go all the way, but Dallas and, eventually Detroit would have defeated them.
6) Colorado for making the playoffs with all of their injuries and taking out Minnesota . I respect Lemaire, but can’t believe that they cannot make it out of the 1st round. Testament though to how tough Sakic and the Avs were and are.
7) Boston for showing how overrated Montreal really was. I like Montreal out of tradition, but was really surprised that Boston almost beat them. and
Philly beat them to go on to the finals.
8) Toronto’s players for not being traded at Trade Deadline- true team dedication by Sundin, Kaberle, Tucker, and others. They could have jumped ship to play with a playoff contender, but stayed and are chosing to build for next year. Very respectable!!!
9) Conklin and Malkin deserve big props in the absence of Crosby and Fleury. Conklin, in my opinion, did not receive enough acknowledgement publicly for keeping the Pens in it before Fleury came back.
10) Nashville for giving Detroit a scare in the 1st round of the playoffs- they kept Detroit on their toes, unless Detroit was toying with them. I wonder! Nashville was teetering on elimination, and then made it only to have to face Detroit, but took series to a Game 6.

You forgot the
entire Washington vs. Philadelphia series. One of the best series in the past decade.
As well as Umberger and Franzen’s race for the most goals in a series.
Broduer punching Avery in the face.
Mike Richards short handed goals on Fleury and Price, plus a penalty shot on Huet.
Boston almost rallying to beat the top ranked Canadiens.
Richards making Crosby look like a @% in game 4 at the end.
Basically if it happened on the east and it wasn’t the Penguins you ignored it. Shame. That’s just the playoffs too.
