OK, now we're in trouble.

David currently plays FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth on the FOX drama Bones. Though he was born in Buffalo, David will be following his Philadelphia Flyers throughout Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Go ahead Sid, rub some more salt in the wound…
So I was watching the game last night and everything I see from the players, to the mood of the coaching staff, is that they’re just trying so hard to overcome the injuries to their defense but it just isn’t happening. It’s tough when you don’t have that backside help, especially someone as important as Kimmo has been to this team.
This time of year, the playoffs, it doesn’t bode well with the players, that lack of confidence. We’re down 0-3, and at the best of times, that would be an almost insurmountable lead; there have only been two teams to come back from that hole, as a matter of fact.
And it’s an even big mountain to climb when you’re looking up at Crosby and Malkin standing at the top.
They’re confident and they’re tight defensively. The way they’re checking and controlling the neutral zone has been impressive to watch. Gonchar has been playing unreal; he made one heck of a poke check on Richards on a shorthanded chance that really changed the outlook of the game. He’s a special player, and that was a special play.
They’re clicking. I’m really impressed with their defense and Gonchar especially.
But we need to focus on the positive. Last night things started well, the forwards were moving and it seemed like the players were feeding off the energy of the building…but then the Hatcher penalty, and next thing you know there’s a goal and the Orange Crush is out of it.
And when they’re out, it’s a major blow to Philly because they need that extra momentum.
The forwards, after that, looked sluggish and not at all confident. They weren’t getting rebound chances, they weren’t driving the net like they had been, they looked like they were ‘hoping’ to score.
It’s not like they can’t compete with Pitt, they did it in the regular season, but the injuries have them at a supreme disadvantage. The only thing they can do is go to Game 4 and make it real difficult for them, beat them up around the edges, take one shift at a time, and hopefully get on a roll and try to steal one in Pittsburgh.
After that, who knows?
For that to happen though, the play of our forwards has to be better. Briere’s line played a little better – still not great – and not nearly good enough for the win.
I feel bad for the team because they’re working so hard, and they want to win so badly, but the players, I watch them, I see them in the interviews, and they just look like the tank is empty.
And Steve Downie, the poor kid, he can’t make that kind of a pass. You have to get that deep. You just knew right off the bat when he passed it that it was a bad play, and then all of a sudden they’re rushing on Biron (who else but Malkin?), and a 2-1 deficit is now a 3-1 deficit and things just fell apart.
Steve, I love you and you’re going to be a big part of this team, but you just picked a bad time to make a rookie mistake.
So I’m actually heading to New York tonight, and I’ll be watching tomorrow in NY. Hopefully I’ll have something to talk about on Friday, on into early next week.
Sid still has his horrible mustache, so he must not be reading.
Anyway, for now it’s looking pretty bleak, but the guys are going to come out and play hard. It’s not about competition – they’re all competing – they just don’t have the manpower to compete and propel them to the next round. It’ll take a miracle…
A Mike Richards miracle, perhaps?
That guy is almost singlehandedly winning this series. If we had one more of him, I daresay we’d be up 3-0 in this series.
Until then.

So much for getting a tee time in Philly any time soon
as I’m sure the Flyers will get all the preferential ones. Seriously though, we’d like to thank the Flyers, David Boreanz, and all the Flyer’s faithful for participating in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs. You can pick up a copy of the home game, your year’s supply of Rice-a-Roni, The San Francisco treat, and any other consolation prizes you may have won on your way out.
The better team clearly won today. The Flyers had Kimmo back and suffered their worst beating of the playoffs so there goes that excuse. It was a hell of a run going from last in the East to the Conference finals, but this year’s Pens team is something special. With the way both of these teams are stacked, this rivalry is going to be good for many years to come. It’s been great sparring back and forth with you guys, but now it’s time to move on to doing it with either Detroit or Dallas fans.

I'm two, two mints in one
Broadstreet – You nailed it. I’m both. Went to my first hockey game in 1971 and was fortunate enough to see both Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr in that game, and was hooked for life. I am a passionate hockey fan with a level head, and I absolutely despise the Flyers. The only team from Philly I ever rooted for was the 76ers with Doc, Bobby and Caldwell J Mo and Moses, and that’s because we didn’t have an NBA team over here in Pittsburgh. Other than that, Philly teams make my blood boil. That’s only compounded by the fact that our Governor barely acknowledges that we exist on this side of the state which is why we refer to him as “The Governor of Philadelphia”
I was glad to see that none of our guys backed down when the extracurricular activities started at the end of the game, and honestly, Malone was lucky to walk away from his scrap with Hatcher. I would wish you guys good luck on Sunday, but the voices in my head just won’t let me.

Tip of the hat
Disco_Stu I never know what to expect when you post, a passionate hockey fan with a level head about the game, or a man who absolutley despises the Flyers. Either way it has been fun going back and forth with you and I would like to compliment you on being (relatively) civil with your last post. As I said in my last post, we’ll see how this turns out. GO FLYERS!!!

Damn!!!!
That was the Flyers’ team I was worried about coming into this series, at least in the first period. I think things reverted back to normal for periods 2 and 3. I honestly thought we were looking at overtime there in the third. Hey, major props to the Flyers for not laying down and coming out fired up in the first period and to Biron for holding onto the lead. When we’re outplayed, I admit it, no excuses, no whining, no complaining about the refs..
Broadstreet – Not sure where you get bitter from. Just speaking the truth. Never said you couldn’t beat us with our current line-up just that you Hadn’t.
Flyersfan – Not accusing you of lying. Just saying I’d like to read the aritcle. I’m sorry your guys had stuff thrown on them in your previous 2 series, but that kind of crap doesn’t happen in Pittsburgh (Nor have any of our fans ever tried to go over the glass to get at an opposing team’s player the penalty box.) I guess that just means that we’re not as “passionate” as you guys are, right?
All I know is that had the Flyers won game 3 and the Pens won game 4, we’d be in the same situation we are now, and everyone would be happy we went into Philly and got a split. So, we went into Philly and got our split, and now have a chance to wrap it up at home on Sunday where we have yet to lose in the playoffs, or for that matter haven’t lost since February.

Thank the Lord (Stanley?)
Well well well, our boys pulled it off, it seems they were sick of being OUTPLAYED (Why did i write that in caps? Well to show you that not all Flyers fans deny when they are outplayed). As for you Disco_Stu the fact that you are bitter that NHL.com has no one blogging about the Pens is just absolutley hilarious to me. Oh and another thing, I thought we couldn’t beat you with your present line-up? Don’t get me wrong, you probably have a 90% chance of going back home and beating the snot out of my guys but until the 60 minutes is up on sunday, we won’t know. My point in saying that is that you should never be over confident, that is the downfall of a lot of people. As for Flyers fans, please stop making excuses so people like Disco_Stu and MetalHead can stop badgering us for it. If we get out played admit it, its not the end of the world. That being said I would like to agree with Flyersfan45, you’re right hearing 20 or 30 Flyers fans call into XM radio and complain doesn’t mean all fans are like that. 20 or 30 out of….How many does the Wachovia Center hold? GO FLYERS!!!

Woo Hoo!
Happy early birthday, David!!!!
Now THAT is the team I’ve been missing the past few games! But of course, they can’t do anything the easy way, and they gave me a few panicked moments in the third, but they pulled it out! Guess the Pens fans will just have to put their brooms to other uses….
GO FLYERS!!!!!!

Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the newspaper, since it wasn’t mine to begin with, however I will definitely try to find one now, since it sounds as if you think I’m lying. Now, just to clarify,I didn’t say you were accusing me of lying, I just said that that is what it sounds like.
And as far as the whining, I believe that I wrote the fans ‘on this site’ weren’t whining, so your point about the callers to radio stations and other sites is not valid. However, I know there are some fans that do complain, but do you know how many Flyers fans there are? You’re probably listening to one tenth of the fans, so to lump us all together is upsetting to me, which is why I posted in the first place. I’ve watched hockey for over 19 years, and I’ve seen and read a lot of comments from ALL teams fans that were complaining and whining. ALL teams have fans that complain and make excuses, ALL teams have fans that are rude and throw things, and ALL teams have players that do bad things and throw cheap shots, so if we’re going to point fingers, be sure to point them back at yourself, because it happens EVERYWHERE.
As for the popcorn incident, our players had things thrown at and dumped on them in each of the previous two series, so let’s not even start with that…
And just a quick note, kaspar13, I think most of the Flyers fans ON THIS SITE, will agree that we haven’t played our best. Obviously it would’ve been great if we could’ve had Kimmo, then we would’ve seen what would have happened, so of course we will wonder, but I am not making excuses. I already conceded in my earlier post that we were not playing to our potential.
Anyway, that’s all I’m going to say on this subject…as I stated before, I come here to talk hockey, not get into pointless arguments, and to tell you the truth, I’m ashamed that I responded in the first place. My only excuse was that it was late and I was tired…but if I say that, you will accuse me of being a whiny fan making excuses, so forget that. I will just apologize, and say I’m sorry for getting sucked in.
So…GO FLYERS! Win or lose, you are AWESOME!!!

From a neutral stand point
I think the thing that will stick with the Flyers when the dust has settled and the excuses faded away onto the golf courses is that there is some honour when you lose playing your best but it just hangs over you when you lose because you couldn’t play to your potential. Here was a series with two young teams four wins away from the finals and whilst one team kept their composure the other lost theirs. You can point at Downie… I certainly have but to be fair to the kid he shouldn’t have been on the ice to make these mistakes he is an impact player who lacks experience and composure. You can point to the defense being injured but everyone said at the start of the playoffs that Pittsburgh would not make it because of their defensive inexperience. The sad fact is Philly haven’t played the way they did against Washington, the scorers have been perfectly managed whilst the Flyers physical play has been somewhat curtailed by some antsy playoff referreing, but Pittsburgh efforts have been effected by the same inconsistencies, officiating is just a part of sporting destiny across all sports and the officials are under the same kind of pressure as the players as every desicion at this stage is so heavily scrutinized. The fact is the Flyers bottled it and its a shame because I had been following them from the Caps series because I liked the way they played, unfortunately that isn’t the way they have played since but they’re pretty young and “there is always next year.”
Great blog, its good to see a celebrity with some passion and knowledge.

what will be their excuse this time
not all fans are the same, there are the ones with class, who are truly knowledgable about the sport of hockey and love it, there are the ones who dont know squat other than how to rip on the other team because thats what they think they are supposed to do. and there are fans that are in between… hockey fans are a different breed of people, especially in philly. I have a lot of friends from philly and we get along just fine, we just dont talk hockey, its like politics, a no win conversation. however, i have met and talked to other people from philly who always have a reason why they lost or we won, or vice versa. always with an excuse. well, if the Pens win tonight, what will be their excuse this time? come on flyer fans, you know that if you lose tonight your redemption will be on the fact that half your defense was out… or that downie wasnt playing his best, or blah blah blah. a classy fan knows when the other team is better, and admits to it. Philly you may have been better in regular season, but face it, the playoffs are a whole different game, and you just cant compete. sorry…
