My Trip to the HHOF
Wednesday April 16, 2008 @ 12:06 PM EDT
So yesterday was my much anticipated trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. What an experience! That place is amazing! Uhmm, so where do I start?? Hmmmm….
That place is bigger than I expected, to start things off. We did the interactive games (which I sucked at, to be honest). The puck-shooting one was really hard! The puck shot into the little space between the TV and the wall, and I’m lucky it didn’t hit anyone! The trivia game was pretty easy, and I didn’t try the goalie game fer some reason. So we went to the Habs locker room. Red, white, and blue goalie pads don’t go well with a Sidney Crosby jersey lol. We went and looked at the old hockey sweaters after that, and now I really see why they call the jerseys sweaters sometimes! They looked pretty warm and comfortable really.
We then went back to the International Hockey exhibit and I took a whole freakin’ lot of pictures of jerseys that were worn by Penguins, like Malkin’s Russia jersey, Crosby and Staal’s Team Canada jerseys, Colby Armstrong’s gloves, and Malkin’s gold medal. I was going mad back there with everything! I saw Crosby’s Shattuck-St Mary’s jersey (also worn by Zach Parise the year before). I took a picture of Andy McDonald’s skates (my friend loooves him, so I thought, why not? lol). What else did I do??? I saw the sword that the NHL gave to the Sabres when they first came into the NHL. I did play-by-play in a booth upstairs (I was Mike Lange fer a minute! lol), and my brother was hilarious when he did his on a Bobby Orr goal
Uhmm, I was the director and producer of part of a Leafs-Bruins game too!
We saw the Stanley Cup, and I got my picture taken with it. Nobody else wanted to. Weird, huh? But I took pictures (again) of all the trophys that Sid and Geno have won, and discovered that the desceased Tim Horton’s real name was Miles! I did not know that (neither did my mom; she knows everything about the past sabres)! But how do you get Tim out of Miles? It’s a mystery….
Ohmygosh, funny story. We were walking around the food court connected to the HHOF, and there was a drunk guy walking around with food that looked like he took it out of a trash can, and he saw my jersey and he just sorta yelled out “Sidney Slawzby”. He was drunk, because he slurred it all together in a way that made it sound funny. It was kinda one of those “you have to be there to think it’s funny” or “have a better story-teller tell it to you so that it is funny” kind of moments. We went back in the HHOF after lunch to see if we missed anything, and we explored the gift shop fer a while. I got a Penguins jersey pin (I collect pins
), a #1 fan keychain, a postcard of the hall of legends, and a Pens pen. Then we walked all the way over to the Eaton Centre and walked around and we went into Hollister. I wanted to get a shirt there b/c it was so freakin hot under my jersey. But noooo lol. We walked back to the car then and headed home.
Toronto was nice, I had my first walk around a really big city I think, but there are so many smokers, it was disgusting! Ugghhh I wanted to slap some sense into all of them! I had a nice time though.
Now that it’s over, one can only imagine when I will go next. I want to go back so bad! It was a great experience, one that I will always remember, especially with all of my Penguins picture-taking obsessions ![]()
Til then, HHOF, I thank you. Anyways…....
WOOT! GO PENS!

You do gain a whole new
respect for the game and the tradition and history of it, huh? Hey, ask your mom about Donnie Edwards – he was my favorite Sabre growing up and I’d love to hear what she thinks about him. Oh, and um, LET’S GO RANGERS!
