The Colorado Avalanche and captain Joe Sakic came to terms Wednesday on a one-year contract. Sakic will suit up for his 20th NHL season during the 2008-09 campaign. Pair of Colorado prospects hopes to make strides
Though the Toronto Maple Leafs have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the past three seasons, they are determined not to rush their prospects to the big stage. Maple Leafs' pick Hayes putting past behind him
Having a successful older brother in the NHL can be a burden or a blessing. For the Islanders' David Toews and Blake Kessel, the support they received from their older siblings has been invaluable.
St. Louis prospect Cade Fairchild has never been among the bigger, stronger players. That's why he's hoping his heady game can earn him a spot on Team USA for the 2009 World Junior Championship.

Beau Schmitz
I’ll presume you saw the Whalers signed this young blueliner from the US Under-17 team. Saw him play quite a lot this year (vs. my Traverse City North Stars in the NAHL), he’s a bit smallish (5’9”, 190), but skates well, is a decent puckhandler, and can be physical. It’ll be a solid addition. And I see the NAHL will add a team to the Metro Detroit area, as one of the teams from Minnesota is moving to Brownstown Twp. Look for the Motor City Machine next year.

Panic in Detroit? Why?
There’s no reason to panic at all. Now that their road trip in Nashville is over they have the greater chance to take the lead in the series because they are heading back to Detroit and the Wings have not lost a home game on home ice yet and this Friday I’m gonna have to say the odds are against Nashville. The Predators think they’re fans are the biggest key well they’re going to overwelmed by a see of Red and White. This Friday the wings will wrap this series up with a 3-2 lead. Ellis will be pushed to the point of exaustion, Tootoo won’t even get one break and Kronwall will be cracking skulls big time. The Wings will come out with avengence and dominate. I also think they should leave Dom in net cause by far he is the better goalie. Ozzy’s great but Dom’s a solid goalie. Detroit will come out with a fire that the Nashville Predators won’t be able to put out. Detroit will open the first with two goals and score two more by the end of the game. I’m gonna say 4-2 win Wings!
