It Ends Tonight!

Syd Butler is the bassist for Les Savy Fav, a New York-based band considered among the godfathers of the independent rock music scene. Butler founded the Frenchkiss Records label, with the intent to release the band’s albums, and has since signed over 35 bands, including the Hold Steady, Thunderbirds Are Now, and the Dodos. Ever since growing up in the Washington D.C. area, Syd has been a die-hard Washington Capitals fan. He can’t wait to see what the Stanley Cup Playoffs bring for his Caps.

GAME 6

My heart was heavy at the end of the first period. While I had confidence that we would score a goal, I got a bit worried after the Flyers went up 2-0. The game was going their way and it was in their home, on their ice. The “oranges” were frothing.

Then a miracle happened – a steal, a tic-tac-toe pass and Backstrom’s shot was in the net! 2-1.

After being pushed around in the early part of the series, Backstrom and Semin are using their smarts and skills to beat the Flyers and because of this, you can’t count the Caps out. They have proven themselves to be a true team and all 18 players give it their best every second. They believe in each other on and off the ice. I get the feeling that these guys want to hang out with each other outside the rink, and that they can’t wait to see each other the next day and at the next game. Give credit to the coach for keeping them focused on winning, believing in themselves and each other.

Now the Caps have two scoring lines, a great goalie combo and two energy lines. If we play our game, we might just win this series tonight. I think the hockey Gods want the Caps to win. The Flyers have had two games to win and they have blown two leads. It’s time for the Caps to win tonight. It’s time for the Flyers to say goodbye and good night.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST – Ovechkin. The Russian bear wakes and roars – the game-winner, of course, to take the series back to DC. His two goals peeled the oranges hopes of a home playoff series win. Back to DC, back to my superstitions, back to my spot on the couch.

Go CAPS!
