The 10 Commandments Of The NHL
Sunday July 13, 2008 @ 11:51 PM EDT
As we all ponder and spend our time reading the NHL Rule Book,we fail to ponder the fact that has never been clear to us that they are specific NHL Guidlines.
In case you are reading this and wondering what the heck I’m talking about, please read on.
The NHL has failed to mention that the NHL and its association must follow only certain guidlines, and those guidlines are the 10 Commandments of the NHL.
The NHL has only really asked for the NHL Teams for follow 10 Commandements
So,pick up your hockey Bible, and read on
THE 10 COMMANDMENTS OF THE NHL
1. Honor Thy Game
-
p. Hockey is not much if you dont honor the game.
Sure, the NHLer’s say they love the game, have passion for it and such, they have to honor the game
A way a person can honor they game is by having utmost respect for the NHL.
superstitions are a must in the NHL and in all sports.p.
-
2. Love Thy Goalie
-
Yes,its true! You h ave to love repect and respect the goaltender.
Where would the NHl or hockey be without them.
Sure we cuss at the goalie for letting a goal in.Our first instinct is when a goalie gets scored on too soon or too earlier the noble thing to do in anyone’s eyes is to grow the guy out.
When a goal scores, its all on the masked man.
Their mistake is up there on the scoreboard for all the world to see.
Take Andrew Raycroft, probably the NHL’s most ridiculed goaltender.
As when playing for Toronto he just plain didnt have the ’’Wow’’ factor as other Leaf goalie Vesa Toskala.
Sure,he’s lost many games for Toronoto, but is it because he so-called sucks, makes the fans hate him?
I’ll try to remember Andrew raycroft as the Boston Bruin who mwon the MVP.
And now that Raycroft isnt a Leaf anymore,he may sleep much more peaceful and so can all of Leaf Nation.
While at times we fans sit in the arena drinking our beer and watching the game intently and when your home t eam gives up a goal,we look at the goalie, then the defense.
Defense should be considered as the goalie is the last line of defense.
If you sat in an NHL Arena and saw your team give up a goal, please dont say’‘I can do so much better’‘
Must the goalie go through Ridicule?
Honestly?
With all that gear we wear?
Sheesh!p.
3. Befriend Thy Ref
-
Ah.Referees! This was the year that the refs annoyed the heck out of everyone!
And I mean everyone!
While all of us this past season watch the wonderful world of hockey we also spent some time doing something else.
We yelled.
We were in outrage!
No,it wasnt because a fan started a brawl!
Heck no! We’d cheer for that!
It wasnt because the home team was down 5 goals.
nope,it was all about the guy in a helmet with stripes bigger than a Zebras.
I tell you,us fans can stop and think of several moments that we yelled at our television because the refs called out a ’’bad’’ pe nalty.
the refering had so much to do with the outcome of many of the NHL games.
Yeah,we blame the refs for blowing the whistle at the worst possible time.
Its not that hard to relate to the Player that is getting his behind sent to the Penalty Box!
If in any case, bribery may be the answer,if the ref can deal with the fact that the player is just trying to reason, the games may go much sooner.
the following bribes may make changes to NHL penalties.
How’d you like a new whistle?
How’d you like to be $20 richer?
I’ll buy you a slurpee!
So you see,its possible ’’get out jail free card if you play your cards right!’‘
Ref.Befriend Thy Ref.p.
4. Thou Shalt Be A Good sport
Tantrums.Spilling gatorade.Saying cuss words your dad used to say, will not make you a good sport.
Its not that uncommon to be in an uproar and in upheaval if you loose a game or some big tough guy like Kyle McLaren decides to body- check you across the boards.
Or when Sean Avery indoctrates a fight.
Fighting is part of being a good sport
Seriously,it is,in many ways fighting has helped flare a good rivalry and gets the crowd going.
Being a good sport involves, being a good fighter, having a great smile on the count of your teeth are half misssing. And of course, scoring a goal here and there.
Is it me,or do goalies have a great smile?p.
-
5.Thou Shalt Be Faithful
-
Be faithful. be true to your team, and your team will love you back.
Its possible,a team can love you back.
However, lets take into consideration of how ’’traitors’’ we have in the NHL world.
Scott Gomez comes to mind for me,in any case, yes,if you must leave your team, leave your team, dont go to the enemy’s camp!
I would have rather see Gomez on the Panthers than a Rangers jersey.Forgive me hockey peeps.I call them like I see them.
As for the fans, never give up on your team!
Not now,not ever!
If you are a bandwagoner,be good at it,and after awhile, stick with your team.
After all, finding your team is like finding true love at last, why leave them? p.
-
6. Thou Shalt Be Prepared
-
Just be smart.Be prepared. You wont be scared as long as your ready.
You never know what can happen.
one day you may be watching a game, only to see that your team is don 2 goals.
The expressions on your face show sadness, and all you can say to your T.V. screen,is ’’come on,come on’’!
Why must we talk to our TV so much anyways?
Be prepared for the win!
Be prepared for the loss!
You will never know what can happen.
Dont be the person with the straight face.Yeah, you know the kind, the ones are emotionless whether their team is one win away from winning a Stanley Cup,or when your team makes it past the toughest team in the NHL.
Be prepared, and you wont be suprised.p.
-
7. Thou Shalt Have R-E-S-P-E-C-T
-
If you are an NHLer you come across alot of peeps in your life.
Wich is a good thing
However, lets take in consideration, how it must be to meet hundreds of people in so little time.
Lets talk rivalry.
Say for instance,Rangers vs Devils.
Yeah, they are stuck playing one another,on the ice,its a battlefield.
Rivalry start figghts and a good start of riots depending on wich players collide and wich fans from each team collide.
I say,you can respect,in any angle.
For me,I repect some teams from a distance.
lets keep it that way.p.
-
8. Thou Shalt Don The Paper Bag
-
If you are wondering why you always saved that paper bag from Safeway, its probably because its a commandment.
Every team has droughts in their life.
Ask the Panthers, some Leaf fans,so Kings fans.
In their fan bags, they carry the paper bag.
paper bags seem to be quite fequent in sports world for the reason that their t eam is awful, yet inside, inder that bag they remain faithful and truthful.
Most, dawn the bag after a dissapointing season.
And for some,if your team has been labeled as a loser, then its best to keep that paper bag handy.p.
-
9. Honor Thy Legends
-
After hearing the word legend,I think of Don Cherry. The guy with the snazzy suit, talked hockey night in Canada and has a receding hairline.
We all have someone to look up to.
All the young guns in the NHL take the NHL by force these days, and the older vetren guys, are hanging up their skates and calling it quits.
Take Mario Lemiuex and Sidney Crosby.
In a way Mario was a legend, and Sidney was learning the ropes from the vetren Penguin.
Mr.hockey’’ Gordie Howe’’ is a legend withing himslef by giving the NHL many dedicated years of his life, and setting the path to many NHLers today.
Honor thy legends, they may teach you the ropes faster than you know.
Alas,we also must honor thy head-honchos
If you have a likeable bone in your body, then Gary Bettemen may be repected! Haha!
Maybe not!
I may be the only one who reconized Gary Bettemen as being a cardboard cut-out at the draft,it seemed like a life-sized card-board cut-out was speaking in that mike, with of course, having the words pre-recorded.
We have to honor the head-honchos,and Bettemen doesnt have to count.p.
-
10. Thou Shalt Celebrate
-
Good moments in hockey should be celebrated.Whether its teams winning, our one of the fighters on your team wins the big fight!
Yes,it can happen.
Winning the Stanley Cup for example is the time to go all out!
Celebrate with pride, and make all that hard work your team did,pay off with the sweetest victory.
Yes fans,celebrate.
NHLers celebrate.
Its such a refreshing feeling to see a nail-bting game come to an end, sure its exciting, but they are times when the playing must end.
Celebrate.
Celebrate Hockey.p.

Awesome blog!
Another great blog by you! There were so many bad calls made by refs this past season and a lot of teams got screwed over (Wings against the Ducks in the reg. season when they took away a Holmstrom goal because of “goalie interference”)That call still makes me mad (doesn’t even touch Giggy… interference called when he didn’t even touch the guy!). Maybe the refs secretly hate Holmstrom and they’ll do anything and everything to screw him and the Wings over. Sorry for that little rant there… still liked the blog! Keep on rockin’!

GREAT WORKS
Makes me think of a great quote from allstar goalie Jacques Plante: “Goaltending is a normal job. Sure! How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and fifteen thousand people stood up and yelled at you?” – in reference to poor Andrew Raycroft!

Hahaha
I love it when I am at a game and I hear a fan they could do better. I always tell them to get on the ice and do it then. “What? But your not a hockey player? Thats probably because you COULDNT do better!” They usually shut up.
