NHL Playoff Blog Week One:

Directed “Juno”….........Directed “Thank You For Smoking”…..........Directed “Death by Chocolate” on Saturday Night Live
Jason Reitman’s appearance on NHL.com’s The Hockey Show.
If you are looking for my thoughts on teams in the 2008 NHL hockey playoffs, you have sadly come to the wrong place. You see my two teams, the Canucks and the Kings, are not in the hunt. They were sadly edged out of their quest for the cup. Well, the Canucks were edged out… I don’t think the King’s 32 wins qualify as being “edged out”. Too bad they’re not in the NBA Eastern Conference. They could have had home court advantage.
I’ll let my fellow bloggers discuss the action happening “on” the ice. (Wow, haven’t seen that before). I’m going to do something far more inventive. My blog will follow all the exciting “off” ice action happening to the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks.
Well week one was an exciting one!
Kings forward Dustin Brown is halfway through Guitar Hero 3 on expert. He’s optimistic, but hasn’t found a solution for the Weezer solo.
Good news from the Sami Salo camp. After a season hampered by his left ankle on the injured list, he is finally sitting out of hockey games guilt free.
Bite-sized King’s centerman Michael Cammalleri scored big points with the family when he offered to host the first night of Passover at his place. Seriously, he’s Jewish. Yeah, I thought he was Italian too. The only current Jew still in the playoffs is Mathieu Schneider on the Ducks. This team has Bertuzzi, Brad May, GM Brian Burke, and Jewish Mathieu Schneider…. I just might have to root for them.
Henrik Sedin has returned to his off-season gig on The Muppet Show as an understudy for Beaker the chemistry assistant.

All-star Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo became a new father in the closing weeks of the season. He spent the last week getting parenting tips from UFC Father-of-the-Year Patrick Roy.
King’s captain Rob Blake was caught trying to sneak onto the Avalanche charter yesterday. The moment would have been less humiliating had he not been wearing a Forsberg jersey.
Canuck’s D-man Mattias Ohlund has fallen into depression back in Sweden. At this point he’s eaten half his weight in pickled herring.
Human raccoon and King’s sniper Anze Kopitar is back in Slovania, where he is currently the third wealthiest citizen, second only to the local distributor of Stallone films and a guy named Petrosh who controls the “clean” water.
King’s rookie defenseman Jack Johnson is looking for a fight. He has a sign up tear sheet at a sports bar in Manhattan Beach. George Perros need not apply.
Canucks captain Marcus Naslund has taken ads out in multiple newspapers. They read – “Lost: MY SHOT. Identifiable characteristics include a deceptively fast and accurate wrister. Normally found top shelf where mom keeps the Xanax. Last seen in 2003.”
I look forward to Kevin Smith joining me on golf coverage when his Devils fall to the Rangers.

Playoff Team?
Okay, I can’t actually say I feel for you with both teams being out with the Canucks being one of my hated rivals. However, I do wonder if you have a playoff team that you do root for other than whoever faces the Devils??? If you’d like to jump on the wagon of a great team and a great fan base… come out to Calgary, there’s a ticket waiting for you if you’d like to get on board!

Dark days in Lotusland
What sad and woeful days these are in Vancouver. Sad and woeful days, indeed.

Hey,
Just heard you on the Team 1040, I hate Celine Phanpoof too. Cheer for the Rangers in the playoffs.

Great Post
I heard you on the Stern show last week and it was a great interview despite the circumstances.
Thanks for the laughs then and now.
As for Kevin Smith, why don’t you hide out in your Red Bank hole until it’s all over. We’ll let you know when you can open your eyes. You Jersey Hockey fans know nothing about the sport or tradition. You just like to cry about the Rangers getting more publicity or something.
I think Golf commentary might be a much better direction for you.

Thank God to you sir
What a fantastic Post. Amen. Thank you for Smoking was one of the wittiest and delightfully sarcastic movies I had seen in a long time, and the style is demonstrated in your blog to perfection. I will now go and rent Juno(I would buy but hockey equipment prices are killer) based completely upon reading this blog.
Also, please continue to banter with Kevin Smith. An intellectual and verbose dueling of words is exactly what this board needs. I would suggest threatening to win an Academy Award with a film staring Sean Avery. Absolutely priceless. Cheers

Listen here, "Juno"-boy
“I look forward to Kevin Smith joining me on golf coverage when his Devils fall to the Rangers.”
We don’t need that kinda negativity, man. You should be sending positive vibes our way, sir: New Jersey is like the Canada of America (without the currently stronger dollar).
Sadly, New York is like the America of… America.
What I’m saying is, we need all the help we can get. Send a little of that Academy Award-nominated magic the Devils’ way, won’t you?
And send a little extra MY way, please. In a post-”Jersey Girl” world, I could really use it.

Not worth the wait.
I was really looking forward to reading your blog once I heard about it. I also like the Nucks and Kings but your blog wasn’t worth the hype.
In Los Angeles we are constantly beat over the head about who are Jews and who aren’t. They make up 3% of the US and nothing close to that in Canada. Nobody cares who the Jews are in hockey.
You did have the Sedin/Sesame Street obversation but other than that, your blog was about as exciting as the first two periods of a King”s game.
Please be worth a read and not be as much of a dissapointment as Cloutier.

Ummm ... Jason?
Jeff Halpern (with an “a”) hasn’t played for the Capitals in years, and is currently watching the playoffs from home after finishing the season with the Lightning.
Mathieu Schneider no longer plays for the Red Wings. He has spent the entire season with the Anaheim Ducks.
Also, I prefer Ghostbusters to Juno, but that’s just my opinion. The first two statements, however, are called “facts”.
