Every vote is earned?
Wednesday January 23, 2008 @ 04:43 PM EST
Ok so if you’re like me and sometimes watch Versus for hockey, you’ve more than likely seen those commercials for the All-Star Game that say “Every vote is earned” or “Every vote counts”. Now as much as I want to believe that – I can’t. If every vote from the fans mattered and was earned and counted, Pascal Leclaire would be starting for the Western Conference All-Stars on Sunday in Atlanta.
Now you may be thinking – “Oh she’s only witting this and is upset about it because that’s her goalie and blah blah blah.” Yes he is indeed my goalie but that’s not the only reason I’m witting this. It’s because of the fact that Bettmen and the rest of the higher ups in the league are morons! They want the fans to vote on who starts for the All-Star games, and then they pick the reserves. Which ok, I can live with that. But when the one who got the most votes backs out because of family priority [which I totally commend Luongo for doing!] the next logical starter is the one who came in second with votes.
But do these morons do that? NO! They go and put someone else as the starter. Now, as much as I hate to say it, but Osgood is a good goalie and yes he deserves to go. BUT Leclaire has been suburb all season long – yes he’s had a few bad games but you know what so have the rest of the goalies in the All-Star Game – and earned the respect and votes from fans to go to the ASG. He has seven shutouts – count em seven! He has had great stats all season long and looking back at his previous years, he is just truly amazing! He is one of the main reasons that the Blue Jackets are in playoff contention.
They said that Columbus already had a player going to the All-Star Game and that they should give another team a chance. Another team? Um, hello there’s four Red Wings going to the game! Why don’t you knock one of them out of the game? And not to say that Rick Nash doesn’t deserve to go, because he does – he’s amazing on the ice. But again, so is Pascal. He has the fastest legs in the league and has helped a team that has never been in the post-season since their inception, come right up there with the big boys in the West for a playoff spot. Now any goalie who can do that should be in the All-Star Game, if not the starter then certainly a reserve! Pascal, though, took all of it in stride and wasn’t upset, that we saw, about not going to the game. Which he doesn’t/didn’t need to be because the fans of Columbus and fans from around the league are ticked off enough for him.
So anyway in conclusion, if you ask the fans to vote for who starts an All-Star Game and the person they voted for can’t go for some reason, the next guy in voting goes. Plain and simple. If you can’t stick to that, then don’t ask the fans to vote in the first place!

Sad, But True
You saw it with the Goalies on both sides. The starters backed out and the fan favourites are NOT the next ones to get the chance. Drives me mad.

Yeah!
I agree Leclaire should totally be there. I really don’t get choosing Legace as one of the goalies. I mean, Pascal has 7 shutouts!! Ughh….as much as I love the ASG, it bugs me that it’s just a popularity contest.

I agree that Pascal Leclaire should be in the allstar game, but he is not and that is because the allstar game is a popularity contest. Even though I vote I do not think the fans should have any say on goes to the allstar game. It should be decided by players, GMs, Coaches or even hockey writers. Most fans vote for who they like not who deserves it.
