Could be worse.

I’ll admit it. Halfway during the 2nd period of the Hawks game tonight, I wanted to turn it off. They were only trailing by two, but in this case two goals looked like about five. The Hawks (with the exception of a couple of guys) were playing like crap, or at least looked like they were skating through crap. At that point, I said to my sisters that I would consider one goal – just ONE STINKING GOAL – a small victory.
Well, the Hawks really turned it around in the third. They only scored two, and gave up two (though one was an empty-netter), but they could have easily added another one or two. I realize that a win is a win, and a loss is a loss. But honestly, I was starting to believe that the Hawks’ injuries had finally reached the point that it was insurmountable. The third period showed that the Hawks can overcome that. If they continue to play with the hustle and drive that they had in the third period tonight, they should survive this.
Consistency is the key. You can’t play one period of good hockey and except to be able to catch up. Winning games in this situation will require everyone to come out and play hard for the entire 60 minutes. I know the Hawks can pull it off, but will they?
I expect a win against the Ducks tomorrow and nothing less. I’ll take tonight’s “small victory” because I honestly didn’t believe the Hawks could do anything good at all. Now that they showed they can, they need to keep bringing it.

It could be a lot worse ...
... you could be the Toronto Maple Leafs!
But you’re right: consistency is the key. The teams that are consistent are the ones that are going to make the playoffs easy.
It’s the rest of us that are going to have to fight it out just to get the last playoff berth.
