FA Period in Review....Anticipation
Wednesday July 09, 2008 @ 07:38 PM EDT
I used that word as the title of this blog to describe the way I feel right now about what the Sabres next move might be in FA, if at all. According to the Buffalo Sabres website, GM Darcy Regier is looking for another defenseman, (although I like spelling it defenceman) so, it will be interesting to see who the Sabres land. Dmitri Kalinin took the train to New York to join his former teammate Chris Drury on the Rangers. So, it will be interesting to see who we pick up to replace him. We already made a good move by bringing in Craig Rivet, but adding another veteran would really help shore up a problem area on the team. Sure, the Sabres scored 251 goals last season, good for 4th in the league. But, we also gave up nearly as much, 233. Yikes. A quick glance at the FA defencemen still available show such players as Rob Davison, Keith Carney, Tarnstrom, Bret Hedican, Joe DiPenta and Andrej Meszaros. Very intriguing. The list of FA also includes Mike Peca, Stu Barnes and Geoff Sanderson, and these 3 gentlemen were teammates on the last Sabres team to make it to the Finals. Perhaps a reunion of these guys could produce similar results. We shall see what happens.
