Description
I was raised a die-hard habs fan in the most unfortunate of hockey cities, Edmonton! I am an accomplished curler and chess player (played hockey until I was fifteen but just wasn’t a good enough skater to get anywhere). Love to see the Canadiens faithful out in full force! Go habs Go, the drive for 25 is alive!

Good game tonight
It was good to see our HABS back on the ice, I was a little bummed that Higgins was not playing but hopefully he will be back soon. Let’s hope we beat the LEAFS tomorrow

Why the Habs lost
In my opinion, one reason the Habs lost to Philly and haven’t won a Stanley Cup since the early 90s is the “new” (since 96) Molson Centre or Bell Centre or whatever. The Montreal Forum was to hockey what St. Peters is to the Catholic church and Yankee Stadium is to baseball. It was intimidating to opposing teams. Twenty four Stanley Cups won by the Habs in that building! Visiting teams didn’t have to just play against the habs of today – they had to also play against the ghosts of those great Canadiens teams of the past. 24 stanley Cups before ‘96. How many since ’96? ZERO! The Flyers are going to do away with the Spectrum at the end of this season. Of course the Spectrum can’t compare to the Forum, but the change still sucks!

Things in common
It seems that we have a lot in common – I hate the Leafs (the only team I ever hated more were les Nordiques du Quebec – Thank you God for taking that team away from us), I was a high school chess champion, am a history buff, and used to be a pretty good curler (I had to give up curling when I moved to New Orleans in ‘86. They don’t even have a curling club here in the Big Apple, where I’ve lived since ‘89. The only thing about Canada that I miss more than curling is having packets of pure white vinegar for my fries at fast food restaurants.) One thing that we don’t have in common, though, is that I’m an ex-Habs fan….I was in Edmonton once, way back in the summer of 1975. I had gone up to Fort McMurray to visit friends. Edmonton is also the birthplace of one of my favorite players of all time: JOHN KORDIC.

Are you looking forward to the season? I am seeing the Habs in Ottawa on the 27th. How is the family?
