Lets look at the stats and achievements of goalies during their time with Montreal.

1910-1925: Georges Vezina
Hall of Fame Since 1945
2 Stanley Cups

Georges Career was split between the NHA and the NHL, combined with both leagues he received a 175 wins, 15 SO and a GAA of 3.28.

1926-1933:George Hainsworth
Hall of Fame since 1961
3 Vezina Trophies
2 Stanley Cups

Recorded 167 wins while with the Habs, also had initiated a rule change due to his stellar play.

From Legends of Hockey

In 1928-29, he enjoyed his greatest season by allowing only 43 goals in 44 games and registering 22 shutouts. A veritable workhorse, Hainsworth led all NHL goalkeepers in games played for nine years out of 10 from 1926 to 1936. He hit double figures in shutouts in his first three years in the league while posting a goals-against mark of less than 1.50.

Following his record-breaking season, the NHL’s forward passing rules were modernized, making it virtually impossible for Hainsworth to post such remarkable numbers again. Still, he backstopped the Habs to the Stanley Cup in 1930 and 1931.

1943-1950: Bill Durnan
Hall of Fame since 1964
2 Stanley Cups
6 Vezina Trophies
208 wins
34 Shutouts
2.35 GAA

Legends of Hockey
Bill Durnan entered the professional game late and didn’t stay for long, but he packed an entire career’s worth of awards and recognition into his seven National Hockey League seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top netminder an amazing six times, missing out on the award only once when Toronto’s Turk Broda borrowed it in 1948.

1952-1963: Jacques Plante
Hall of Fame since 1978
6 Stanley Cups
7 Vezina Trophies
1 Hart Trophy
305 Wins
53 Shutouts

Jacques Plante – Part of our Heritage

1963-1970: Gump Worsley
Hall of Fame since 1980
4 Stanley Cups
2 Vezina trophies
89 Wins

1971-1979: Ken Dryden

6 Stanley Cups
5 Vezina trophies
258 Wins
46 SO
2.23 GAA

    #1 Plante, #2 Dryden, #3 Roy

Plante’s record says it all. 6 Stanley cups, 7 Vezina’s, 300+ wins, 53 SO’s. Dryden makes it to #2 but falls short due to the length of his career. Roy was special but also a selfish hothead.
I believe Price will make his way into and possibly to the top of this list if he plays long enough. He certainly possesses the right tools.

    Roy not??

Well I hear that Roy is either hated or loved depend on what end of the so called bench is concerned. He wanted out of Montreal and why was that??? He
was a great goalie no matter the situation. So Patrick Roy is My pic.

    Note to Fellow Habs Fans…
I Hope that the Guy and Bob continue to Bring forth winning success. They are really doing a great job.
    GOOO HABS.

    Roy is my pick

I am a littel biased since he is my fav player, but he accomplished the most with the least playing in front of him. He was that franchise and that was proven by the awful collapse when he was dealt away. Another 2 cups and a Conn Smythe later the Habs knew how bad a deal that was and how bad Tremblay was behind the bench. Not to mention he was the inspiration for every french goalie and the butterfly style in the last 20 years.

    Plante, Dryden, and Roy?????

This is too hard for me to choose! These three are legends of their own time and always will be! I guess you need to look at the teams that they played for and who had the better or worse players at the time.

    Georges Hainsworth

Georges Hainsworth, IMO was the best goaltender in the history of the Habs! Specifically for this reason: In 1928-29, he enjoyed his greatest season by allowing only 43 goals in 44 games and registering 22 shutouts.

    Jacques Plante

    6 Stanley Cups
    7 Vezina Trophies
    1 Hart Trophy
    305 Wins
    53 Shutouts

PLUS MADE THE BIGGEST CHANGE IN THE GAME! IT WOULD BE HARD TO IMAGINE PLAYING GOAL WITHOUT A MASK TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
