Group Description
What better place to expand the Western Conference? Seattle has a fantastic sports culture and is home the most passionate, devoted fans who would be more than welcoming of their very own NHL team. I mean, Columbus? Nashville? Come on! Seattle is a REAL city. There are definitely pros and cons to the issue, and this is the place to discuss it. If you’re in full support of changing Gary Bettman’s mind on bringing an NHL hockey team to Seattle, then by all means join this group.

Hockey Night in Seattle?
I heard on KJR (the Gasman) last night that Comcastsports net which will be available very soon to Comcast cable subscribers in Western Washington and will air Canuck games this year. There wasn’t a press release on their web-site but there should be more to follow. Here is the link.

Value of NHL teams
2007 Forbes report. At #30 The Nashville Predators. Why do they have a team and not us? The (SCI) could buy them with spare change and still have some left over for an Arena League football team

Opportunity knocks?
Just joined this forum. I think a team in Seattle would be great as it will form a natural rivalry with Vancouver.
Now with the Sonics officially leaving town, the window of opportunity for Seattle to land an NHL franchise may have opened a crack. Check out this quote in today’s Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008033115_sonikeyarena04m.html
Quote by Matt Griffin, possible investor in Key Arena Renovation project:
[That proposed renovation, however, would not turn KeyArena into an NHL-ready venue. For major-league hockey, the inner bowl would have to be significantly reconfigured.
Griffin said his group hasn’t “spent much time talking about the NHL, although we’ve spent some time.”
“For me, personally, I think it’s something worth looking at. Never say never.”
Mr. Griffin, I think you should seriously consider reconfiguring Key Arena to accomodate NHL hockey. Given the sordidness of the Sonics trial and given that there may be more NHL teams ready to move than NBA ones, you will stand a better shot at landing an NHL franchise than an NBA team in the next 5 years. Also, Seattle is the largest northern US TV market without an NHL franchise and has a rich hockey history, so Bettman would love to explore the idea of bringing the NHL into the Emerald City.
Just do it, Mr. Griffin, and convince your colleagues to buy into the idea!
