I gotta tip my hat to the Penguins.

Thursday May 01, 2008 @ 11:47 AM EDT

Eddie Cahill has made guest appearances on many popular television series, including Sex and the City and Friends. The native New Yorker currently plays Detective Don Flack on CSI: NY and will be following his hometown Rangers throughout the Playoffs.

Frustrating as this has been, they are playing beautiful hockey and I feel compelled to recognize that.

I’d like to add to the “Crosby” conversation that has been whipping around. I don’t believe Sidney Crosby is a diver at all. However, I do believe that Sidney Crosby is a politician, and what can be annoying about him is that he seems to have more influence than most, and he never hesitates to grab a Referee’s ear. Can I blame him? I don’t know. He does look whinny at times. However, he is a fantastic hockey player who plays the game with nothing less than all of his heart, and he’s a great leader. I got a lot of respect for that boy/man, and when he’s not dismantling the Rangers, I derive great joy from watching him play.

This has been a real bummer. For the life of me I can’t figure out how this Ranger team has fallen apart so quickly. Is it that the Penguins are too good? Do our Rangers really not have what it takes to beat these guys? In my heart of hearts I can’t believe that this is true, but there has been nothing in 3 games (maybe a couple of moments in game 2) to suggest otherwise.

From where I sit, the Pens look too damn fast. It’s astounding how quickly they generate offense, and our boys don’t seem to be able to keep up. Many times in this series I have seen Rangers standing flat footed as the Penguins….you get the idea.

Look, I am fully on the side of making some history, but needless to say the mood at the Cahill house is a little gloomy. BUT…I’ve seen
the Red Sox do to my Yanks…I still believe!

Here’s a thought that came to me during the last game. It’s about the new style of officiating that we’ve seen since the lockout. I feel that like the shootout, this sort of officiating has no place in the playoffs. That being said, I also feel that if it’s not good enough for the post-season then it shouldn’t be good enough for the game at any time. You see where I’m going with this? Penalty shots aside, Hockey is not a one on one sport and should never be decided that way. Was a tie that bad? I don’t think so. But that’s just me.

The officiating is a bit trickier I guess. On the one hand, it’s great that more opportunities for goals are being created (right?), but I think games are being over officiated now and too many are being decided on soft calls which is not good at all. There’s a reason why most guys on the ice where Jersey’s with team names on them … let them decide the outcome. Bear in mind, I’m not referring to any particular game but rather the game as a whole.

Another problem I’ve noticed is that this compulsive whistle blowing has taken a bit of the edge out of the playoffs, and has paved the way for the on-ice politicians to be constantly in the Ref’s ear…it’s annoying. I hope the league looks into this and finds a happy medium.

Well Friends,

Here’s to making history.

LETS GO RANGERS!!!

All the best,

Eddie

I'm as true blue as it gets...

... but I was thinking after Dru, Betts and Avery were down for the count they they would all be golfing this weekend-LOL. Good thing Dru is a tough @% and Jagr has been on fire, eh? I think Gomer has been kind of quiet this round.
I get text messages on my phone between periods with updates and refused to look at them during game 4 out of fear of a meltdown in public(the boss only lets me off for hockey fever so many times per year and I had to work). Thank god for Sportscenter, the recorder and the MSG postgame. I don’t care for the Vs. coverage. Sam should do ALL the games!
I bet you can imagine the joy when one of my best friends called me to whine about the home team getting their A$%^&S handed to them. They live just south of Pitt. and thought their team was going to sweep us. So, na na na na na to them.
I have to say its nice to hear someone else agree on the officiating. I wonder what the odds are getting a whistle-aholic anon group going.
All hail King Hank and his court!
    ;o)

    You can't.

You can’t blame Crosby for arguing calls. It’s his job, but his surroundings are what makes him look whiny. Because he is young and fairly good, it is going to look like he whines a lot. Think about it, if for one game Hal Gill or Sean Avery(God bless his soul) argued all the calls that Crosby normally would, would you think any different of them? I doubt it. Regardless, I do think he complains a lot, and a little more than is needed sometimes, but he’s not doing it as often and pretty soon he’ll grow out of it. Gretzky was the same way, and we see where it got him.
Also, I don’t like shootouts either. I think the only reason the league uses them is because it’s exciting for some of the ‘newer’ fans. But for the fans who actually know and think about the game, it’s just a waste. I’m glad they didn’t imply them in the playoffs.
    Anyways, Good Luck tomorrow,
    Bree.

    Yeah...

I agree with you on many points; Crosby, the shootouts, the refs…
I’m really hoping you guys can turn it around. I’d love nothing more than to see that happen!

    shootouts

I’m not a fan of the shootout either. Players play the whole game just for it come down to one shot. I don’t like it.
As for Jagr: he’s already planning his trip to Russia. They guy is not a team leader. He proved that in Pittsburgh. So I don’t believe what he says. Although he did have a great game 3. He played with a lot of passion. He just wasn’t able to rally the rest of the guys to do the same. Say what you want about Sidney Crosby but he does the lead the team. In the locker room interviews I’ve seen all the guys say Sid makes them want to play better. Jagr doesn’t have that.

I am so with you on shootouts!

Hate ‘em, hate ‘em, hate ‘em! Nothing wrong with a tie.

So, we have three teams – Avs, Sharks & Rangers, poised to be the first teams in more than 30 years to come back from 3-0 records and win the series. While I fear the Avs are doomed to disappointment, the Sharks have already closed the gap. The Rangers might just do the same tonight.

    Politics don't belong in Hockey

Jagr seems to be on the right track with that quote. I hope they pull out some wins for their fans against the pens!
As far as the officiating is concerned, I’m still trying to figure out why there are two sets of eyes when only one is good enough to screw up the game.
I concur with the shoot out not being a great part of the game and should be reevaluated.

Here's what Jagr had to say

“It’s not impossible,” Jaromir Jagr said. “Let me tell you one thing—there’s been millions of playoff series over the years, and you’re going to forget a lot of them.
“You’re going to remember maybe overtime of Game 7, or the Finals, but if you can do something special, people will talk about it forever.
“Outside this room, I don’t think many people believe we can do it, and I don’t blame them. What’s important is that we believe. And I think we do.”
    Let’s Go Rangers!
