Description:
Hey people, just happy to be here. Some people call me Dave, some people call me David, some people call me Maurice….but most people know me as Super Dave. I love hockey. I heard before that hockey is the perfect combination of ballet & murder….that sounds accurate to me. The grace and the fury….hey, perhaps the NHL can hire as a PR guy. Anyway, the first game I went to was at Michigan Tech Univ. as a kid, and my love of the game has had me hooked from there. In a nutshell, I’m a life-long Michigander, living just about everywhere in this great hockey state, including 7 years in the metro Detroit area. Just don’t make the mistake of presuming I’m a Red Wings fan just because I live in Michigan. And don’t try to convince me to root for your team, or plead your case about why your team is better….I don’t care. Get lost if this is your agenda, and don’t let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out. I have a low tolerance for stupidity and bullsh_t.
Favorite NHL Team:
Toronto Maple Leafs
Favorite Sports/Teams:
Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Plymouth Whalers (OHL), Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL), Traverse City North Stars (NAHL), Michigan Tech Huskies, Northern Michigan Wildcats, Lake Superior State Lakers (NCAA)....U.P. Power, baby! UofM & MSU can p!ss off!!), Detroit Tigers (MLB)....football and basketball bore me to tears
Favorite Players:
Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, Jarome Iginla, Alexander Ovechkin, Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Ryan Miller, Ryan Smyth, Paul & Peter Statsny, Chad Kilger, Boyd Deveraux, Joe Thornton, Mike Modano, Peter Forsberg, Joe Nieuwendyk, Doug Gilmour, Gary Roberts, Dion Phaneuf, Lanny McDonald, Wendel Clark, Vincent LeCavalier, Jeff Finger, James Wisniewski, Ethan Moreau, Jonathan Toews, Sam Gagner, Jared Boll, Jeremy Smith, James Neal, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, John Vigilante (best name in hockey, bar none)
Music:
My Morning Jacket, Paul Weller/The Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, The Clash, Spoon, Pearl Jam, The Tragically Hip, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, The Replacements/Paul Westerberg, Bob Dylan, Modest Mouse, the Stranglers, Idlewild, Kaiser Chiefs, The Smiths/Morrissey, Muse, New Pornographers, Captain Beefheart, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Sloan….I could keep going here.
Books:
Favorite authors include Douglas Coupland, Chuck Palahniuk, Chuck Klosterman, Paul Auster, Augusten Burroughs, Jonathan Lethem, Jeffrey Eugenides, plus I like biographies on musical icons and figures of controversy (often one in the same). For hockey stuff, Terry Sawchuk’s biography is good, and The Hockey News (a.k.a. “THE PAPER”) is a staple at my house.
Movies:
I tend to choose drama, suspense, documentaries, bi-opics, concert films. I also tend to follow certain directors….favorites include Alfred Hitchcock, Marc Forster, Sam Mendes, Darren Aronofsky, the Coen Brothers, P.T. Anderson, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Sofia Coppola, Michel Gondry, Danny Boyle, James Mangold, Terry Gilliam, Cameron Crowe, Todd Haynes, David Fincher, Spike Jonze, Gus Van Sant, Martin Scorsese, D.A. Pennebaker, David Lynch, Mel Brooks, the later works of David Cronenberg. Just starting to get into foreign flims. When I do comedy, I choose stoopid.
Other interests:
Camping, hiking and biking are always a good time. I’m also into music, movies (see above) and cooking. When hockey season is over, it’s time for baseball….GO TIGERS!! In my spare time this pst winter, I act as one of the voices of the Traverse City North Stars, helping with the in-game P.A. during home game, all on a volunteer basis. If there’s one piece of advice I can give to anyone who’s a hockey fan, it’s this: GET INVOLVED ON THE LOCAL LEVEL. Volunteer at your local rink.

Dave!
hey i don’t think i even answered your last post… i’m sorry! gasp i haven’t really been thinking about hockey that much lately… oh don’t get me wrong i miss it like crazy, but it IS kinda nice to not have to revolve my life around it for a little while…
i’m gonna give the mullet a chance in tampa. i loved torts, i thought he was a GREAT coach and i think the team, the fans, and the organization are going to miss him, but i also think it was a good move to bring someone new in. i’m not sure the right guy was melrose, but i guess time will tell right?
the flyers have been doing a good job with the people they’re bringing in and stuff – they signed carter and eminger. i kind of hate all the new faces though. i know that’s the nature of the sport, but at the same time you just get used to the team you have one year, and then the next year you practically have a new team. at least they kept most of the core, though, and that’s all i was worried about.
but what’s going on with the leafs? what about sundin? what about the players they gave away? good or bad? luke schenn… that was their biggest pick right? (forgive me if i get it wrong… i’m still out of the loop lol). but i heard from several people he looks really good, like phenauf or somebody.

Sundin gave Cujo the Finger!
That was bad, sure, but did it make you laugh?

Do you expect anything significant...
for the Leafs at the FA table this year? Other than Jeff Finger (who will probably be your 4th defenseman) and Cujo (I must admit it will be nice to see him end his career with a 1-year deal in Toronto) I really don’t expect the Leafs to do very much, do you? Seems like they are setting the table for Brian Burke in about 11 months!
